Development of a Score Recording System and Information-Assisted Training

With Professor Hsu, Yu-Chia as the supervisor, students spent more than one year on the project, starting with investigating the types of games and their rules. As a result, they developed a model for recording scores of different types/items of competitions and data interpretation. The model allows all heterogeneous scores to be recorded and searched in a homogeneous and standardized manner. Professor Huang, Jyh-how has assisted in training baseball players of the professional league, collecting and analyzing films of World Baseball Classic games and data, and developed a system for collecting sports information, and introduced the tracking technology used by MLB to help players train. Since the “Magic Ball” theory was proposed, the baseball data trend has spread across the US. The Department is a pioneer in research on sports data in Taiwan. Through data analysis and processing, students can learn the concepts of statistics and probability, the ways of processing images, various applications of computer software, and a responsible attitude. They will even have the opportunity to meet many star players from CPBL, and also help the national team win their games.

Research and Practice on Directing and Virtual Reality Sports Broadcasting

Information research Professor Huang, Shih-chieh’s research focuses on the development of films and TV for sports event broadcasting in the age of new media. Instant sports comments and the new way of training commentators both impact the interaction between TV directors and filming crews. As the sports industry and development of communications change, Professor Huang’s research investigates different communication patterns and group training from a cross-country and -culture perspective. Professor Liu, Jing-wei uses computer technology to simulate 3D virtual reality (VR), providing users with simulations for the senses, such as the visual one. Currently, only visual, audio simulation and basic control are available. Therefore, Professor Liu will use 3D-VR technology to assist in the future training and testing for athletes. He will also develop the latest instant broadcasting system, paving the way for the Department’s uniqueness and development in sports communication with the latest technology and teamwork.
